Purnima, in this video tells us about the Evolution of the Laws with respect to Sexual Harassment at the workplace.

She starts by pointing out the Fundamental Rights guaranteed under Articles14, 15 & 21 in the Constitution of India to all its citizens. She states that sexual harassment at the workplace is in violation of these fundamental rights.

She then moves on to the landmark judgement that emphasised the need for a well defined legal framework to deal with issues of sexual harassment at the workplace. This landmark case is the Vishkha & Others v. State of Rajasthan which provided for certain guidelines known as the Vishakha Guidelines.

The Vishaka Guidelines has played an integral part in the formulation of the current law that is in place today, viz., The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 commonly known as the POSH Act.

Stay tuned to know more about the Internal Complaints Committee which is set to be released on 8 January’19.
